Lalibela

Lalibela is home to 11 medieval monolithic rock-hewn churches, carved directly out of solid volcanic rock in the 12th and 13th centuries. Still an active pilgrimage site, it is one of the holiest cities in Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
